We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karen Storsteen, M.S., M.A.. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karen below.
Karen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
For many of us, putting ourselves out into the world authentically and expressing our true nature and innate talents can be scary. Self-doubt can emerge and we wonder if our gifts will be received – particularly if our gifts are not considered “mainstream.” We wonder if it is safe for us to follow our calling and life’s purpose and if we do, if we can make a living doing what we love.
In my case, I had a hidden and seemingly unconventional gift and was afraid that if I shared it professionally, I could lose my Fortune 500 clients and be unable to make a living. The stakes were extremely high as I was supporting myself and two teenage children, had two expensive mortgages, and was working for myself as a management consultant and executive coach. Allow me to back up a bit.
At the age of 14, I had an awe-inspiring conversation with my father, a loving dad and surgeon, about the purpose of life. He enthusiastically stated, “The purpose of life is easy! It’s to have fun!” Although I loved the wisdom of my dad’s words, I went to my journal that night and documented my life’s purpose to help people uncover and express their divine spirit. I thought that if I could do so, I too would be expressing my calling.
I was the friend in school who cheerled you on and the place where you would go to feel understood. As a young child, I could feel into the minds of adults who would tell me they were “fine” when I intuited the contrary. According to loved ones, I had a sixth sense as a toddler and was in tune with the spirit world as well.
Thankfully, my parents were expansive in their thinking. My mother studied metaphysics at UCLA and my father taught me Einstein’s Theory when I was 7 years old. I came from an entrepreneurial family. My siblings and I were taught by my parents to trust ourselves and that we could accomplish anything we intended. Mind over matter. You create your reality.
I was spiritual and practical. I loved the field of psychology and wanted to make a good living, so early in my career I focused on the fields of human and organizational development in business. I received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, a Master of Science in Management and Organization and a Master of Science Minor in Finance.
I started my first management consultancy at the age of 24 helping organizations maximize human potential and bottom-line performance. Over 20 years, I reorganized companies, improved corporate cultures, coached senior executives, and developed universities for leaders of Fortune 500 companies and higher education.
Although I loved my work, as I approached mid-life, I wanted to go deeper with individuals and connect on a more profound level. I went back to school and received a Master of Arts in Psychology and started a counseling practice in addition to my consulting business.
During this time, my parents died, my marriage ended, and I was on my own and financially responsible for my kids. I had no backup. My anxiety was at an all-time high and I was searching for answers from within and spending a lot of time on self-reflection.
Through this difficult and challenging period, however, my intuitive abilities soared, and I was better attuned to the support and messages of divine guidance. Intuitive insights plopped into my consciousness, and I knew information with validity without any way of knowing how I knew.
Individuals began validating my psychic insights and executives caught on asking me to intuit answers for them regarding questions they had about mergers and acquisitions, new products and services, their board, staff, customers and personal lives. Taking it a step further, I was receiving and communicating loving messages from the other side. Still, I was hesitant to share this information for fear of losing my reputation and livelihood.
We are all intuitive and we are all psychic (psychic simply means of the soul). For me to feel comfortable sharing this information, I needed to understand the science behind psychic ability. How can we know information without any way of knowing how we know? It’s more than quickly processing information based on pattern recognition. We can intuit information with accuracy without any prior knowledge of the area in question. In addition, how is it we can we be in tune with consciousness on the other side? I was living in the world of the mystical and miraculous. I was highly curious. I wanted to share with the world what is inherently available to all of us.
I began studying and found quantum physics, quantum duality, and entanglement which helped provide answers as to the how of my psychic experiences. In addition, an individual who had been an executive of Stanford University Medical School and who was writing a best-selling book on neuroscience/neuroplasticity sat down with me to connect with his mother who had passed. He was moved and impressed by the reading and shared with me how my brain was wired. He taught me how I had shifted from stress to neurological power and extraordinary intuition and how I had expanded my prefrontal cortex. I learned that neurologically our intuition is our highest level of intelligence. Our intuition is our superpower but only a few are aware of it.
Armed with a better understanding, I wanted to demystify psychic phenomena and show that intuition is a valid form of intelligence that everyone should trust.
Like most of us, I weighed the pros and cons involved in the risk of sharing this information and expanding my professional title to include the often misunderstood word, “psychic.” How would a “Psychic in the Boardroom” or a “Psychic Psychotherapist” go over?
Here were some of the pros:
Intuition is our highest level of intelligence. Everyone should trust it.
The answers we seek are available to us right here right now.
Problem resolution and the decision-making process can be reduced from years and months to minutes and seconds.
Consciousness exists after the body dies, the soul never dies, and we are more than our physical/material existence.
We can connect to loved ones in the afterlife. They lovingly support us.
I am here to help people self-actualize and self-realize. This is my mission.
Our intuition is the gateway to our soul and when we listen to it, we are joyful, enlightened, peaceful, courageous and loving. We are living in integrity with ourselves and on path.
We are all precognitive and have foresight which can help us direct our lives and foresee opportunities and avoid obstacles.
Here were a few of my perceived potential cons and risks:
The science behind intuition and psychic ability is new and would require a major paradigm shift for most people.
Psychic ability has been thought to be outside the sphere of physical science and the work of charlatans.
I could lose my consulting business, reputation and have difficulty supporting myself and my children. I could lose my house. I could lose everything.
Here is what I know. You can’t live in integrity with yourself and live a life of fulfillment and joy if you aren’t being true to yourself and following the promptings of your soul. Your soul knows what it is here to do.
I was leading the reorganization of a multibillion-dollar company in Canada. I was working tirelessly while starting my private practice as a psychotherapist and doing intuitive readings. I couldn’t do all of it. I faced a fork in the road, and it was time to choose. I knew what I should do, but could I face my fear? If I jumped off the cliff, would I fly rather than fall?
In a life-altering moment, while driving through a snowstorm in Denver, I received a profound message from Jesus. He said, “You have been exonerated from the reorganization project. We have work to do!” He giggled and metaphorically placed me in a body of water. The next day I got a call from the client saying they thought I would be happy as I was released from the reorganization project. Jesus of course was right, and I was listening. The Universe had plans for me and I better get on board.
Elated, relieved and at the same time petrified, as I lost my major source of income, I had to trust and have faith that I was being moved toward my destiny. The next week, out of the blue, I got a call from an FM morning country radio station whose hosts were popular media personalities in Denver. They said they heard about my work as a psychic psychotherapist and business consultant and asked me to be on their show to provide listeners and callers with tutelage and intuitive insights to their questions about love, work and life. I jumped at the opportunity to share with hundreds of thousands of listeners.
At the same time, the universities asked me to teach my course, Intuitive Leadership, and psychic-mediumship, to their staff and students. Professional organizations, such as the Project Management Institute, had me speak to their members and teach Intuitive Intelligence to project managers. Several other radio stations reached out including the Crime Wire Show where I helped families gain clarity about the unsolved murders of their loved ones. This led to TV opportunities on major networks.
NASA’s first Chief Knowledge Officer asked me to write the leading chapter of a textbook on intuitive decision-making for executives. My dream to normalize the psychic sciences was taking root and I was excited to learn that I was in a textbook under data analytics.
Writing in publications, such as Discover Magazines, continues as does my counseling and consulting practice. I am extremely grateful that the media, higher education and leaders encouraged me to face my fears, share my gifts, and teach others how to maximize theirs.
I love what I do. Working with others, using my gifts, is an absolute honor. I will never retire as my work doesn’t feel like work but a meaningful contribution and expression of my calling.
You can trust yourself. The Universe has your back. Remember, when you find yourself, the world finds you and the world needs you.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
As I stated earlier, I have several markets I serve as a counselor, management consultant, and professional intuitive. In my work, I integrate the three fields so I can assist clients whether in work, love, or life.
Most of the growth from my business has come through client referrals and from teaching, writing, and public speaking.
I am a researcher and life-long learner. I began teaching leaders at the age of 21 and over the years have developed several universities for large corporations as well as higher education.
In addition, I teach through writing and the media and offer online and in-person courses to the public. I hold four advanced degrees. I have grown to be known as a thought leader in the areas of Intuitive Intelligence and Intuitive Leadership.
While educating has helped build my reputation, what matters most is character, process, and results. I am known to have an “energy that enables people to openly share and disclose.” I am also recognized as a “practical,” “down-to-earth,” “trusted advisor” who is “light-hearted” and “able to see possibilities that are often invisible to others.”
My clients and I get to the root of problems, find answers, and make positive transformational changes. I genuinely care about the people I serve and am there during their toughest times.
Concerning the intuitive space, as much as I dislike saying it, psychics, for the most part, have often gotten a bad rap and skeptics abound. Part of the issue is that the psychic sciences are poorly understood and there haven’t been standards established for practitioners in this field.
Fortunately, I have found that being a psychic has been a key neuro-differentiator that has catapulted my counseling and consulting business. My clients tell me that they quickly gain valid insights and accurate answers about themselves and their businesses that give them fast relief, clarity, and peace of mind. The process is far more efficient than traditional psychological and consulting methods, and the approach is transpersonal (meaning we are more than nature and nature; we have a soul and are spiritual beings).
In business, I am recognized for helping to unleash the spirit of the organization and harness its’ intuitive intelligence to enable and sustain peak performance and exponential productivity improvement.
As a psychic medium in front of hundreds of thousands of listeners on the radio, when a caller asks a question live on air, I have to be spot on and provide information that resonates with them. I must be consistent over time and on point with every caller. Callers often give fake names (to understandably protect their confidentiality), and I can’t see them, so no tips can be found through body language when giving the reading. It’s a bit like being an athlete of the brain where I focus, slow down my brainwaves, and get in the flow and zone – except my eyes are usually closed, and I send a lot of love to those participating.
Clients and colleagues tell me I have one foot in the Heavens and the other firmly planted on planet Earth that helps them grow and enrich their lives beyond their wildest imagination.
